Encounter

I was inspired to write this poem after an encounter I had with a homeless man in a bus shelter in Sand Bay, near Weston-super-Mare, on Sunday, June 29th, 2025.

Old homeless man
I tried to help you
Disheveled and smelly
I only wanted to put food in your belly
You shunned my kindness
But it’s all good
I don’t know your soul
I don’t know your story
I see you are troubled
But you conceal your glory
Within the flesh
We are brothers as one
We were both born, and
Will one day both be done
It’s impossible to help everyone
It’s a soul’s right to refuse
So, as you journey forward
May your angels guide you
I wish you well my lost brother
