The word “sin” comes from the Greek, and simply means, “to miss the point”. This is another example of how the church, being man-made, can take something that is completely innocent, turn it into something that it is not and then use it to frighten the life out of the naive and fearful. I have felt for quite some time that sin simply refers to any practice that diverts us from our spiritual pathway. It is the church that has created the demonic definition of this word that is widely understood today.
Since I am no longer the same person who concluded my definition of sin, as stated above, I now feel that even though this may be true on one level, it actually goes much deeper. My conclusion now is that if there is such a thing as sin it is simply our failure to recognize the magnificence of our own being.
Dear Richard liked your post on SIN. For a person who is in touch with Absolute Reality of inner Soul / Atma, such person’s actions will be in unison with Thought Word and Deed and hence will always be right or correct. But most of us see duality of the world, identify with the body we have and hence our actions would be right or wrong. SIN is defined as detterent to mankind from taking wrong actions.
