I Remain As I Am

Some people know you as God

I know you as I Am

Your beauty cannot be explained

With words formed of logic

You “thought” me into existence

Giving me this body of atoms

You fashioned me with the expertise of a skilled artisan

Now, as the passage of time takes its toll

So, does this body creak

Therefore, during my remaining time

Here in this world of matter

I shall embrace the wheat and the chaff as equals

I shall drink of your nectar

I shall dance to your symphonies

And when the atoms disperse

I shall remain as The Self

The Diamond

Your soul is like the diamond, which started its journey as carbon, deep within the earth’s mantle, 100 or more miles below the surface. Through billions of years of natural processes, that piece of carbon made its way up through the layers and emerged onto the earth, finding its way into the hands of a skilled artisan. It was then fashioned into the beautiful jewel that it is today.

Your soul, too, emerged out of the wilderness and through many, many lifetimes was fashioned by the artisan of life, the Divine sculptor. Each tap of the hammer and chisel representing a trial or tribulation on the march to Buddhahood.

The only difference being that when you reach, you realise that you were already a shining diamond…but what an adventure it was!

The Rock

Here is the second of my sea-related verses from my trip to Weston-Super-Mare.

Mighty rock, stone of wonder who or what has hewn you asunder?

Twas the sea, the mighty sea; the mighty sea did this to me.

But she laps so gently, she whispers calm? How can one so serene and tender fashion you thus?

I have no power in her presence, all melt before her. Like a skilled artisan has she fashioned me, with both her anger and her peace, for both are born out of love. Before, I was dull and unsightly, now I am born anew. I surrender to her whims and await my next adventure…
