It’s Been A Long Time…

13055835_10209349269508071_6546526421904411578_oIt seems like an absolute age since I communicated with you; probably because it is! You may also have noticed that I’ve deleted several of this blog’s pages and I’m not displaying my books and CDs anymore. Well, I’m going through a bit of a transition at the moment; sort of reinventing myself, although there doesn’t seem to have been much reinventing taking place. I’ve unpublished all my books and CDs because they somehow don’t seem to be who I am anymore. For sure, there will be more writing in the future, but only when the new me emerges from the obscuring clouds and I have something fresh to write about. It was important for me to communicate with you today because I really appreciate the following and don’t like to have huge gaps between posts. I suppose I should also give you a little bit of an update.

I’ve still got the fatigue (must be over five years now) that hampers me; but I manage it to the best of my ability and just have to pace myself. I’m still working at the hospice, which helps to keep me grounded, and since my last post I’ve had my 61st birthday (on April 22). The photo is the latest of me and was taken just a few days before. So, now all that is out of the way, here is a teaser for you…

Question: Do the following exist?

Angels, Krishna, trance mediumship, cheese sandwiches, spirit guides, Jesus Christ, physical mediumship, Buddha, life after death, clairvoyance, the spirit world, reincarnation, fish and chips, the afterlife, aliens and…my socks.

Answer: Yes; but only when the ego falsely identifies with the body.

Why Psychic And Clairvoyant Powers Can Be A Barrier To Spiritual Development – Part Two

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Following on from my previous post, Part One, I’d just like to tie up a few loose ends. (if you missed it click on the link http://wp.me/p1qAeL-rbk). I stated that when we become attached to experiencing clairvoyant, mediumistic and psychic phenomena, it can hinder our spiritual growth; as opposed to enhancing it, which is a widely believed myth. So, what then, is the best way to progress and evolve spiritually? Firstly, allow me to digress slightly.

I mentioned in the previous post a number of examples as to why such phenomena do become a hindrance. But using the example of mediumship to demonstrate my point, I stated that for mediumship to occur there needs to be a messenger, a receiver of the message and the message itself. This is duality, and as such, is nothing more than an illusion. So, thinking along the same lines, something else occurred to me recently with regard to my astral adventures. (please click on this link for an account of my most recent and, what was one of my most spectacular ever, out-of-body experiences http://wp.me/p1qAeL-rb2).

Even though my adventures are nothing short of amazing, in the grander scheme of things, they too are illusory. There is the astral experience and the one having the experience (me), this is also duality and therefore an illusion. In infinite consciousness the experience and the experiencer are One; there is no separateness. So, even though I’m having these experiences on the astral planes, they are still occurring below the plane of Self-realisation and are therefore only happening within my astral mind. I also stated that the astral planes are a vast extension of the physical plane and subject to the same natural laws. This means that as well as creating my physical life with my thoughts, actions and spoken word, I am also creating my astral life; as are you. The only unusual thing is that for some reason I am being given a glimpse of this whilst still having “business” to attend to on the physical plane. It’s possible that I’m evolved enough to have these spectacular experiences, but not yet evolved enough to consciously choose the experience. Anyway, back to spiritual development.

We grow spiritually through our actions and experiences in daily life; that is a simple truth, and probably the most powerful way to kick-start your spiritual development is to practice forgiveness. The practice of forgiveness is a most wonderful springboard from which we can go on to greater things. Forgiveness is the letting go of the past. When we let go of the past we are able to evolve, and when we evolve we grow spiritually. Also, carrying out simple acts of kindness in a selfless manner is another extremely powerful method of spiritual development. These practices bring us far closer to our true nature than you would imagine, and the closer and closer we get to our true nature, the more the veil of ignorance is lifted. As truth reveals itself, illusion dissolves away. This is a continuous process, the culmination of which is the realisation that not only is there nothing in existence except infinite consciousness, but that “I Am” infinite consciousness.

Why Psychic And Clairvoyant Powers Can Be A Barrier To Spiritual Development

10497_487005687979215_193773654_nContrary to popular opinion, having psychic or mediumistic abilities is no indicator of spiritual advancement; in fact, it can actually be a hindrance to spiritual development. What many do not realise is that psychic and clairvoyant experiences take place at a level which is well below the plane of Self-realisation; therefore at best they can be nothing more than an illusion; just another game in the play of life. Most people who know me will be aware that I have worked as a platform medium for many years, and so may find that statement very difficult to comprehend; a medium saying that mediumship is nothing more than an illusion! What next? I’ve been aware of this truth for several years now and I realise that all I’m doing is going through the motions for the sake of appeasing the logical minds of those who wrongly believe they have “lost” loved ones. I suppose I’d better explain my thinking…

Firstly, I’m going to use an analogy my good friend, Michael Walters, coined a few years back. Michael says that life is like an onion; consisting of many layers. As we evolve, every now and then, one of those layers peels away and reveals a truth that was always there, it’s just that we couldn’t see it. As truth reveals itself, old, stale mindsets and beliefs simply dissolve away. They dissolve away because they are illusory and not true. They never were true; we simply made them our reality because we believed it to be so. With this in mind it’s fair to say that the onion, which is my life, has been peeling away layers in the last few years at an unbelievable speed.

So, what is clairvoyance? It is a series of temporary experiences that occur in the mind. This tells us that in order to experience clairvoyance we have to engage the mind. The mind is the ego, which falsely identifies with the body therefore what we experience is an illusion; it is transient and not true. If you have a clairvoyant experience there must be an object (your clairvoyant vision). If there is an object, there must also be a subject (the one having the vision). This is separateness (duality), which is an illusion. In infinite consciousness the object and the subject are one and the same; in ultimate truth nothing exists except infinite consciousness, which is One.

We also need to understand that in order to have a clairvoyant experience, the experiencer must be in communication with the astral planes. The astral planes are a vast, kind of extension, to the physical plane and are subject to the same natural laws. This means that the astral planes are subject to relativity, which in turn means that your experience of clairvoyance may be negative as well as positive. Similar conditions apply with regard to mediumship. You have a messenger, the one receiving the message and the message itself; this is another example of duality; in infinite consciousness the messenger, the receiver and the message are one and the same; there is no separateness.

As for psychic powers, they simply relate to the karmic pathway and like clairvoyance and mediumship, they will only exist when the mind falsely identifies with the body. Of course, it is true to say that if you are reading this and you have experienced any kind of psychic phenomenon, it is an indicator that you are starting to wake up to the reality of who you really are. Problems occur however, when people start to have these experiences and wrongly believe that they are the be-all-and-end-all. They develop attachments to the experiences and want them continuously, oblivious to the fact that such experiences are only ever going to be a stepping stone to Self-realisation. When we develop such attachments, and remain in the psychic and clairvoyant planes, it forms a barrier and keeps us in ignorance of our true nature.

Is it not a no-brainer? Why would you want to settle for a lettuce leaf when you can have a whole salad?

A Bit Of Inspiration Never Did Anyone Any Harm Part Two

Quote

For the launch of my latest book, Fragments Of Divinity, on June 12, I appeared as a guest on the blog of my friend and psychic novelist, Linn B Halton.  Below is a copy of the article.

It’s amazing how meeting someone can radically change your life, the way you look at things and the way you look at your future. Today I’m introducing one such person who has indeed had a radical impact upon my life. When I first met Richard Holmes I had been looking for him for a while … yes I know that sounds strange, but I had seen him at an evening of Clairvoyance a couple of years prior and been unable to get hold of his contact details. It’s a long story, but to cut it short it was no coincidence when eventually I was ‘pointed’ in the right direction and there in front of me was a flyer advertising Richard’s next platform. I booked a one-to-one session with Richard and it was amazing, but more was to come. He introduced me to the Vedic Gayatri Mantra and I attended two sessions he held in Nailsworth, Glos in the UK. He also introduced me to meditation and I now use his CD’s to aid my thought processes. I have read everything Richard has written and it has answered so many of my questions about life after death, angels and spirituality. So it’s my great pleasure to introduce and welcome Richard.

I’d love you to tell my visitors about your latest book, another insightful read and great addition to your list of publications. I must admit that I originally sought out your books because I had questions that remained unanswered and what I’ve read has certainly opened my eyes to so many things. But first I wondered if you would mind penning one of your wonderful ‘thoughts for the day’ – something that will inspire everyone and make them stop what they are doing to think about something in a little more detail for just a moment.’

“Thanks for having me as a guest on your blog Linn, and yes, it would be a great pleasure for me to share a wonderful piece of inspiration with you. The following is a quote from Sri Sathya Sai Baba, and it is probably my favourite quote of all time. What I find so inspirational about these quotes is that they can have a number of different meanings depending on your perspective, but as you develop and grow spiritually you are able to look deeper and deeper into the words until the meanings becomes more and more profound.

“make your life a rose and speak silently in the language of fragrance”

For me this has a very deep and profound meaning that I will endeavour to share with you. The rose has a wonderful scent that is quite impossible to describe in words. The scent of a rose simply speaks for itself; in volumes. So when Baba says “make your life a rose and speak silently in the language of fragrance” he is asking us to overcome attachment to the ego-self, pay less attention to words and let our actions speak for us. Nature has a wonderful way of teaching us, and it’s quite incredible how the rose quite effortlessly gives off such an amazing fragrance that is so powerful in its simplistic beauty. The rose does this simply by being itself, and this is also what Baba is saying; if we were to just be ourselves instead of worrying about what others think and how we look in the eyes of others we would simply shine in the way we were meant to. Our “way of being” would speak for us and we would be an example for all those around us.

Another quote that I find really inspirational is “climb the mountains to receive their blessings” from Marcus Aurelius. This again is quite profound in its simplicity. This is another way of saying “no pain – no gain”, or to be a bit more subtle; Marcus is telling us that the rewards derived from hard work are worth the slog. Symbolically, “climb the mountains” means anything that we undertake that is hard to accomplish and “receive their blessings” equates to the reward, which is the sense of achievement we get from having completed the task.

Many quotes are self-explanatory and simple to understand, which is the way I like to write. Indeed, one of the most common things that people say to me when they have read my books is that the topics I write about are always explained in a very clear and easy-to-understand way. So I’m going to end this little article with some words from Albert Einstein that I came across the other day for the first time. I think this is a classic example of a quote that is logic in its most pure and simple form. So, I’ll just say thanks again Linn for having me as a guest on your blog, and it’s over to Albert…..

“we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them”

More Insight Into Spiritual Stuff

I remember when I first started to develop spiritually.  I was still in quite a dark place and didn’t have the understanding that I have now.  It was whilst I was off work with an acute stress related illness that I started doing my own version of meditation; and looking back, I suppose it was right for me at the time.  I had been going to a local spiritualist church in Swindon, where I was living at the time, on and off for a number of years, but unfortunately, I only ever felt despair and frustration with this church and the religion it represented.  My period of illness actually turned out to be a time of great reflection and “seed planting”; the fruits of which I am now benefiting from.  Now before I go any further I should just explain that this article DOES have a meaning and purpose, and I’m sharing my experiences so that others may also learn from them.

As humans we always want the spectacular; if it ain’t got knobs on we don’t want it.  Unfortunately, the same can be said for the spiritual pathway in the early stages of development.  I remember that I used to go to the “open circle” up at the church.  We would do meditation guided by the circle leader, and I could never do it.  Whilst others seemed to have weird and wonderful experiences seeing all kinds of amazing things, I just drew a blank.  I think I may even have invented the odd “experience” or two just so as not to feel left out.  But, as I have said, I didn’t have the understanding that I have now so I remained frustrated in my ignorance; because I wasn’t seeing crystal caves and Native American Indians I believed I couldn’t do it.  What I didn’t realise was that these establishments are always rife with “barrack room mediums” people who have never quite made it as mediums and like to be a big fish in a small sea.  So I would listen to these people relating all their “incredible” experiences and think that they were something special.  However, I persevered with my own version and also started to read a bit and this proved to be an adequate stepping stone.

When I first started communicating with spirit I would occasionally have a friend round and they would let me experiment.  I remember back in those early days (around the year 2000) I would see the transfiguration of the spirit face onto my friends’ faces and I would also on occasion hear crystal clear telepathic voice communication.  When I eventually met my mentors my awareness just exploded out of nowhere and I developed very quickly.  Indeed, within nine months I stood up for the first time in public to demonstrate mediumship, and within 17 months I was out on my own.  When you experience this kind of thing for the first time, it’s very easy to get carried away with it all.  When you see and hear clearly and vividly you think that you have hit the heights.  But now it’s time to explode the myths and share with you why a lot of people come unstuck.

The reason that things seem so clear and vivid in the early stages is because the energies we are communicating with are on a level of the astral plains where the rate of vibration is not that much higher than it is within the Earth dimension.  Because we ourselves are not that highly developed at this stage it doesn’t take much to forge a link with this particular realm.  Unfortunately, what many learn the hard way is that this level of the astral planes houses many mischievous discarnate souls who like to play tricks on us incarnate souls.  They also attach themselves to the auras of unsuspecting incarnate humans and cause all sorts of problems.  It is very easy to fall into this trap because you are very obviously communicating with spirit, there is no doubt about this whatsoever.  But there are many misguided would-be mediums and psychics out there who believe that, just because you get a communication from the astral planes, it is gospel and set in stone; the reality is that nothing could be further from the truth.  This is why it is so important to have good, experienced and disciplined teachers who will impart their wisdom and sense of discipline to you.  I’ve even known mediums to work whilst drinking alcohol; that is an absolute no-no, in fact it’s suicidal; rather like trying to put a fire out with a can of petrol.  All alcohol does is dull your senses, make you lose your discipline and allows mischievous souls to home in on you.  Whilst it’s true to say that at that level you can see fantastic images and hear crystal clear voices, it’s not a place where those who are pure of intention would wish to dwell; which brings me to the crux of this post.

It’s very common for budding mediums to think that they are losing it because their clairvoyant images suddenly don’t seem vivid, if at all they have any.  Also, they may suddenly find that their clairaudience seems to have stopped working.  What this quite often means, in fact, is that the person has grown in spiritual awareness; and I shall use a simple analogy to explain.  Cast your mind back to when you were in the final year of the infants school; you were one of the big kids in the playground.  Then you find yourself in the first year of the juniors; you’ve been promoted, but all of a sudden you are no longer the big kid.  You are scared because you have gone from being big kid to little kid, and it takes a bit of time for you to feel your way around and find your feet.  Well, it’s the same principle with spiritual growth.  As we move to higher levels we leave lower levels behind.  As we are making the transition from one level to another the clairvoyance may well disappear or at least seem unclear.

Some people become firmly fixed at the first stage, unable to let go and move on.  These are the people you encounter who are always trying to force a message onto you, who are always saying they’re seeing incredible things and are in constant communication with their “guides” who also have weird and wonderful names.

In truth mediumship and all things psychic are simply one of many, many facets of the Self.  There is no one on the planet who is not a medium, because we are all, in essence, eternal beings of light, Divine manifestations of God with no limitations except those we impose on ourselves.  From a personal perspective, I am neither a new ager or a spiritualist; I am simply a soul on a mission, a messenger, witness to the Divine play we call life.  I view mediumship in the same way I view making a cup of tea, or tying my shoelaces; it’s just something I do from time to time because it’s a part of who I am.  So in the same way that on occasion I have to make a cup of tea or tie my shoelaces, so do I also have occasion to work as a medium.

Remember, hands that serve are holier than lips that pray.  It matters not what you do, as long as what you do benefits the human race in some way; all work is sacred.  God bless.

An Hour & A Half; 90 Minutes Or A Lifetime? Part Two

As you would have gathered by the previous article the evening of April 3 wasn’t exactly a bundle of fun.  But to the writer, evenings such as this can be a God-send in the long-term because they inspire creativity.  With this in mind, it seemed like a great opportunity to give you further insight into the process of mediumship.  Also, a friend of mine in Slovenia had a number of queries (valid ones) that I shall endeavour to answer in the following few paragraphs.  I will also take the opportunity here to explode a few myths.

It’s a common misconception that mediums can just pluck information out of thin air, and are in constant communication with the realms of higher vibration.  Nothing, in fact, could be further from the truth.  Firstly, any decent medium will make sure they are closed as they go about their day-to-day business.  Believe me, you really don’t want it “there” all the time.  From time to time you do come across people who will tell you that they are in constant communication with their “guides” and who are always trying to shove some kind of hair-brained message down the throat of anyone who will listen.  If you come across this, in virtually every single case that person is simply communicating with lower energies who have attached themselves to them.  In a nutshell, if you have got a constant jabber, jabbering going on in your head or you are constantly having clairvoyant pictures flashing through your mind, then there is something seriously wrong.  A good medium will be disciplined and will know intuitively the difference between negative vibrations and vibrations of a pure nature.  A good medium will remain intuitively connected to the Divine and will not feel the need to show others how great they are by the constant churning out of messages.

Going back to April 3, there was a number of things going on in that room that made the evening one to forget, as far as the clairvoyance went.  But nonetheless, they give a good insight to the uninitiated as to how a demonstration of mediumship can be sabotaged.  There are certain conditions that you need in order for things to run smoothly.  If you have all of those things in place then you really are laughing, but you can get by normally by just having a few of them in place.  Firstly, in an ideal world your venue would have a really good energy, but as already stated, the energy in that pub was probably the most negative I have ever encountered.  Secondly, you would always hope that your audience are going to be warm and open to working with you.  Sadly, they were also probably the most negative audience I have ever encountered.  Thirdly, you need people to respond to you; you need the vibration of their voice.  When you just get blank stares it makes life nigh-on impossible.  It’s also not good when people sit with their arms folded when you speak to them.  The reason being that “who we really are” nestles within our heart centre.  The medium is in a heightened state of awareness and the info coming from the astral realms also has a higher vibration, so the sitter needs to be open-hearted so that the three-way link can be created; in other words, we actually communicate via the heart, so if you sit with your arms folded you are blocking the energy.  I remember going to one particularly grumpy old man sitting at the back, who sat arms folded and with a face like thunder all the time I was trying to work with him; and he was one of the more receptive ones.

Finally, you would also hope that no one brings their own negative entity attachments in with them.  Unfortunately, I had this to contend with as well.  Another man sitting at the back seemed to be constantly in communication with unseen forces himself.  When this happens it interferes with the medium’s link and makes things very difficult.  It got to the point where I couldn’t quite believe what was happening, but I saw it as a challenge and thought the best course of action was to hang in there and keep going.  You just have to work with what you have, it’s as simple as that.  But ideally, you would want a venue with good energy and an audience/congregation who are seeking some kind of spiritual enlightenment, as opposed to just wanting a message; which brings me onto my friend’s queries.

I was asked why I would be doing spiritual work in a pub, why there was teenage girls in the audience and why I felt that clairvoyance had nothing to do with spirituality.  So, for my friend in Slovenia and anyone else outside of the UK I will deal with these issues one at a time.

Firstly, meetings such as clairvoyant evenings have been taking place in the UK for many, many years; probably as far back as the 1800’s.  In the early days they would be raided by the police and mediums would be persecuted.  But for many years now such meetings have become a normal part of life.  Quite often, the people who run them have difficulty finding a suitable hall.  Maybe there aren’t any in the area, or all the decent ones are already taken, so sometimes they have no option but to book a function room in a pub.  However, in this particular instance it was the proprietors of the pub who were running the event.

Secondly, it is quite normal in the UK to have youngsters at these events.  In a lot of the Spiritualist churches people take their kids and even their dogs; it’s actually great to see when families all come together.  The behaviour of those particular teenage girls was actually a rarity.  To be perfectly honest I have had much more problematic evenings because of the childish antics of adults, and what with all the other stuff going on, a few giggling girls was the least of my problems that night.

Finally, my comments about clairvoyance and spirituality were meant in the context of such evenings.  I will endeavour to explain.  As I said in the previous article, clairvoyant evenings tend to attract people who are not looking for spiritual enlightenment.  They go along for a number of reasons.  Maybe just to see what it’s all about, to get a message or maybe with a group of friends to “have a laugh”.  When I said that clairvoyance has nothing to do with spirituality, I meant that simply churning out messages from fairly low levels of the astral plains to people who are not interested in spiritual enlightenment, has indeed got absolutely nothing to do with spirituality.  On the other hand, those who seek enlightenment can of course benefit greatly from their own clairvoyant faculty, either through the bliss of meditation or simply by being in tune with who they really are.  My comment was meant purely in the context of such events that are referred to as “clairvoyant nights” here in the UK.

To end this article I will just elaborate a bit more on why I reacted the way I did.  I was really knocked sideways when I realized I was in for such a rough ride, but as stated, I quickly also realized that I was being tested.  So at the same time as trying to make the best of a bad job, I had a lot of other stuff going through my mind.  I thought about all the quotes I post on social media about tolerance, forgiveness and practising what you preach.  I thought about Baba’s teachings with regard to loving those who want to hurt you and being able to see God in EVERYONE.  I thought about how Baba had literally given his whole life in service of mankind; never complaining and ALWAYS being there for us.  I thought about what Baba had done for me personally and I also thought about the sacrifices made by Christ, Gandhi, and in more recent times, Nelson Mandela.  Taking all that into account was I really going to let my ego win when faced with something so trivial by comparison?  There was only one answer, and I left the venue a happy man and stronger for the experience.

I think I can safely say that I’ve put the night of April 3 behind me now; but watch out for more posts on similar subjects.

An Hour & A Half; 90 Minutes Or A Lifetime?

I once read a great quote by Albert Einstein describing relativity and I want to share it with you as a preamble to what will be my first actual blog article for many weeks.  I will be sharing with you in another article soon as to why my blogging has been at a premium lately, but first it’s over to Albert.

An hour sitting with a pretty girl on a park bench passes like a minute, but a minute sitting on a hot stove seems like an hour.  That is relativity.

And so with that quote in mind I want to share with you my experiences from last night, 3 April 2012, which contained one of the longest 90 minute periods of my life.  It may seem that I am about to embark on a lamentation of doom and gloom.  But actually some very positive conclusions were drawn from the experience.

Last Saturday I received a phone call from a lady wanting to book me for an evening of clairvoyance at a pub in Shurdington, just outside Cheltenham.  My first thought was to turn it down as I do not like working in pubs.  As far as I’m concerned anywhere where alcohol and spiritual work cross paths is a no-no for me.  I have worked in pubs in the past though; in situations where people book function rooms and hold clairvoyant events.  In truth, I never liked doing them, especially before the smoking ban came into effect.  Even though people were not allowed to smoke in the function room for the duration, you still couldn’t stop the stench of cigarette smoke wafting throughout.  I should also explain that especially in the UK, pubs have history; in many cases they are 100’s of years old and the energies within these establishments can be very negative to say the least.  Indeed I remember the last time I worked in a pub around four years ago, it wasn’t an evening that I remember fondly.  But nonetheless I did take the booking for Tuesday April 3 at 7:30 p.m.

I turned up at the venue and it was apparent that the people running the event, who also happened to be the proprietors, did not have a great deal of experience in organizing such events.  But when I got up in front of the small audience and started speaking I knew straight away that I was in for a hard night; what I didn’t realize though was just how hard it would be.  I should also point out here that I’m not a great lover of clairvoyant nights in general.  I don’t feel that clairvoyance has got anything to do with spirituality; all you are doing is communicating with the astral planes, which will be at various degrees of ease or difficulty depending on the energies in the building and the receptiveness of the audience/congregation.  Without wishing to sound judgemental, these events tend to attract people who have no particular interest in spirituality, but who simply want a message from the medium.  Generally speaking they will only respond to stuff they want to hear, so when I stood up to do my preamble and I felt the coldness from the audience I knew immediately that it was going to be tough.

I should also point out here how clairvoyance works and explode a few myths.  Firstly, these events tend to be called “clairvoyant nights” because clairvoyance is a word that people understand.  It comes from the French, meaning “clear seeing”.  In reality mediums generally work with three faculties; clairaudience (clear hearing), which is a like a silent voice in the head, clairsentience (clear sensing), which as the name suggests means working with your sense of intuition, and clairvoyance.  When a medium links in to those realms of higher vibration, those who wish to communicate will give the medium their information using one of those three methods or a combination of all three.  The medium then has to interpret that information and pass it on to the sitter via the voice.  Bearing in mind that literally everything has a vibration, this also applies to the information supplied to the medium and the medium’s voice.  The sitter then needs to respond to the medium, also via the voice, which in turn also has its own vibration.  It’s the coming together of the three vibrations that create the harmonious link between the two worlds.  To many a medium’s frustration, no matter how many times you say this to people, you still get those who do not respond, or who respond in a negative way.  When this happens the medium has to work extra hard to get the information across, and if they are not experienced in dealing with negative responses they can die a death right there and then.  So, with ten years experience under my belt I died a death last night.  I have never before experienced such negative and non-responsive people; and just for good measure I had a group of teenage girls giggling and talking among themselves virtually all the way through.  Before I get to the nitty-gritty I should explain something else about mediumship.

To say that mediumship is important is like saying you would cause an impact by removing a single grain of sand from the Sahara Desert.  We only think there is something “mystical” about it because we have lost sight of the “Self” (who we really are) whilst in these physical bodies.  We are all beings of light with unlimited potential; no limitations whatsoever, except the ones we impose on ourselves, therefore we are all mediums.  To think about it logically, why should we not have a link back to where we came from?  I’m not even a great lover of calling myself a medium either, because by doing so, I’m putting myself in a box and giving myself a category that somehow limits me.

So, there I was, waiting for the ground to open up and swallow me; but wait…… surely there is a positive to come out of this negative?  Of course there was, and in many ways, I am so glad for that most awful of experiences.  Firstly, I cast my mind back to how the old me would have dealt with it.  I would have shown my frustration and eventually I would have probably stopped, sat down, and told those being disruptive that I wouldn’t continue unless they left.  I may also have reacted with a slightly aggressive tone and become very impatient.  It’s also true to say that any decent medium doesn’t mind getting a “no”, it just means we have to do bit more work, but the absolute worst part of the evening was the horrendously long periods of silence when I lost my link completely; a silence intermittently broken by the giggling of the teenage girls.  But I realized that I have evolved quite a lot over the last few years.  I was very aware of my reaction, and even though I was not exactly best pleased at being in that situation, I saw it as a challenge that needed to be met.  I also realized I was being tested and I shall explain.

Here I am, someone who has been guided by Eastern philosophies and who calls himself a devotee of Sri Sathya Sai Baba; I even have Baba’s quotes on my stationary, “help ever hurt never”, “love all serve all” and Baba’s teachings are very precise; “see God in everyone”.  He also very often reminds us that “hands that serve are holier than lips that pray”.  I’ve also read Paramahansa Yogananda, Eckhart Tolle and Neale Donald Walsch, so I am more than aware of the importance of letting go of the ego in order to realize the “Self”.  So, was I really going to succumb to my ego and pass judgement on those who clearly did not know any better?  Was the evening about me and my image or was it about doing God’s work?  Was I really going to forget all the wisdom that’s come my way over the past few years for the sake of my ego being knocked?  I’m just so thankful that I had the vision to see what was really happening from a spiritual perspective.  Another thing that I’ve learned recently is that it is not our circumstances that depend on whether we are happy or sad, it’s how we deal with them.  I’ve also learned that the universe is in constant flow and that it has been created as a paradox.  So within the realm of matter’s ebb and flow we are not always going to have circumstances that we like.  But what we can do is accept that they are the only set of circumstances we have at that moment and deal with them in the best way possible and to the best of our ability.  So, all these things were going through my mind and I simply got on with the job.  The old me would also have immediately blamed my angels and guides for not doing their job properly, but I understand that it was only because of the hard work and support of those “unseen forces” who work with me that I was able to see it through.  It was such a relief when it was all over, but it all ended on a positive note.

I was very surprised that some of the ladies in the audience came up to me afterwards and shook my hand and thanked me for their messages.  Some others were also apologizing for the behaviour of those who had been disruptive and said how disgusted they were.  They informed the pub management who also apologized to me and informed me that the perpetrators would be barred from attending any future events.  In reality the energy in that room was the most negative I have ever encountered; that was the crux of the problem.  The giggling girls didn’t exactly help, but in the years I have been working as a medium I’ve encountered a lot worse.  I explained to all those who offered apologies that they were not necessary and that we should try not to judge those who disrupted; they clearly didn’t know any better.

I wasn’t booked at that venue by coincidence; I was booked in order to be tested.  I’m very grateful for the experience but I wont be working there again.
