About Author Richard F Holmes

I was born in London in 1955 and have lived a very topsy turvey life. I left school at 15 with no qualifications, and had I not left voluntarily, I would have been asked to leave. I always felt that I didn't fit in anywhere, and as a result, by the time I reached the age of 17 I'd had 24 jobs. I joined the army in 1976 hoping that it would give me a purpose in life but instead I became even more disillusioned and turned to alcohol. I hated the army because I found it to be such a hypocritical organisation and as soon as I was eligible to do so, I bought myself out. Whilst in the military however, I did enjoy my experiences in Germany and in 1980 went back there to work, staying for six years. My heavy drinking continued during my time in Germany and by the time I returned to the UK in 1986 I was heading down into a deep depression. I managed to haul myself out of it in the mid-to-late 1990's but my life hit an all time low in 2000. In early 2001 I found my spiritual pathway and started to turn my life around. I now live in Gloucestershire in the UK and I'm a successful medium and healer. I'm also the author of ten spiritual publications and have produced five meditation and three chanting CDs. I'm a workshop facilitator in various spiritual topics and I also give profound interpretations of dreams. There are plans in 2014 for another book, provisionally entitled "An Idiots Guide To Spiritual Law" and a series of audio books in CD form. The Religion Of Love

My heart has opened to every form. It is a pasture for gazelles, a cloister for Christians, a temple for idols, the Ka’ba of the pilgrims, the tablet of the Torah and the book of the Koran. I practice the religion of Love; in whichever directions its caravans advance, the religion of Love will be my religion and my faith.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba Never Forgets His Children Part One

It’s going to give me great pleasure writing this article because I’m going to tell you a true story about about how Swami bestowed his loving grace onto a truly wonderful man.  A man that I have great pleasure in being aquainted with; and a man who was truly deserving of Swami’s grace.

For about the last four years I have been attending, whenever possible, the once- a-month bhajan (devotional songs) sessions at the Claverton Hall in Bath with the Bath Sai Baba group.  Because I live around 25 miles away it is not always possible for me to attend, and take part in the other activities that the group organise.  I am eternally grateful to my wonderful friend and brother, Satyan, for introducing me to this group after I met him for the first time at an event celebrating Swami’s birthday in 2007.  However, I digress slightly.  Whenever I went along I noticed that a man called Patrick was always in attendance, and I also found that he was always one of the first to arrive to help set up, and always one of the last to leave after clearing away and tidying up.  I learned also that Patrick always got involved with the seva (service) activities that the group organised, such as the feeding of the homeless at the hostel in Bath City Centre.  I got to know Patrick after a few visits and quickly became aware that he was a man of great humility with the wisdom of a sage, and I also just assumed that he lived in Bath.  I also just assumed that he had been to Prashanti Nilayam on a number of occasions.

Two things, however, really surprised me.  Firstly, when I was chatting to Patrick just prior to my first visit to Swami in 2009, I was amazed to hear that he’d never actually been himself.  Secondly, I was equally amazed when someone told me that Patrick does not actually live in Bath; he apparently lives in Bradford-On-Avon, which I believe is at least five miles away.  Not only that, he doesn’t drive either; he travels everywhere by pushbike.  Nothing too unusual about that, but not only is the Claverton Hall at the top of a very steep hill, but it’s also a very long hill, and I remember one particularly bitterly cold Thursday night in December when the group held a Christmas Carol service at the hall, Patrick had been there then; helping to set up and pack away.  It’s difficult to believe that someone would be so devoted to Swami that he would go to those lengths to ”do his bit”.  Anyway, that’s the background information, now on to the main point of the story.

As I mentioned in a previous article Swami had invited devotees from all over the world to attend a pilgrimage in 2010.  The UK had been invited, along with several other countries, to attend in August of that year.  Various devotees from Region 7 (of which Bath is a part) were going.  Unfortunately, Patrick, being a family man, didn’t have the spare cash to spend on the cost of the flight.  However, Baba had other ideas.  Because the group booked a bulk ticket the airline offered one free seat for the return journey.  So, it was decided that all the names of people who wanted to go but couldn’t were put into a hat.  Patrick’s name was amongst them, and lo and behold, his name was drawn.  But there was more to come.

I saw Patrick some time after and I was telling him how happy I was for him that he was able to go.  What he told me next left me nigh on gobsmacked.  Patrick said that he had been at Prashanti for a number of days and did not even think that he would get any personal attention from Swami, especially on the day in question, because when he was sitting in darshan he was quite a few rows back and never in a million years even dreamed that Baba would single him out.

Now anyone who is familiar with Baba will know, that during the last few years in his physical form, he was in a wheelchair.  This particular day Patrick was sitting in line with the throngs of people and Swami was being wheeled along in the gangway area specially left clear for his wheelchair (the days when Swami would glide amongst the masses like an orange-robed angel were long since gone).  All of a sudden the wheelchair stopped and Baba looked over towards Patrick.  As he did so a man sitting a few rows in front sat up obscuring Patrick’s view.  Patrick said he quickly moved his head to one side just in time for Swami to make eye contact with him and say ”so you have come at last”.

I was overjoyed to hear this and I can just imagine how he felt.  Out of all the thousands and thousands of people in darshan Baba chose to shower his grace on Patrick.  I was over the moon for him.

I will close by sharing an experience that occurred just six days prior to writing this article.

I had not been to the hall for what must have been over six months and I was having an ”inner calling” to attend.  I wanted to get there at 13:45 in order to take part in the study group prior to bhajans.  But due to circumstances I wasn’t able to get there until the bhajans were about half-way through.  As I entered I noticed empty seats at the front where Patrick was sitting.  I sat down and we acknowledged each other.  Within seconds of sitting down Swami enfolded me in his Omnipresence and I felt my heart bursting with love; my eyes just filled up with tears of joy.  It was as though my loving Father was welcoming me home.  When the bhajans were over I was able to have a brief conversation with Patrick.  As ever I found a few minutes in his company so uplifting and inspirational.  It was like a double whammy for me.  Baba showering me in his love, and words of wisdom from Patrick; a truly perfect afternoon.

Marcus Aurelius

In December 2006 I approached my friend, and wonderful psychic artist, Patrick Andrews to do a spirit guide portrait for me.  Patrick only needs a piece of handwriting, which he tunes into, in order to produce such a picture.  As we live in different towns this was very convenient for me.  I sent a piece of my handwriting through the post and waited for him to tell me it was ready for collection.
In early January 2007 I got the call from Patrick and duly arranged to go and collect it.  I had no idea who the guide was; and all Patrick could tell me was that he’d had the name “Aurelius” flash through his mind whilst drawing.  I took the portrait home, got myself a nice big frame a few days later, stuck it up on the wall and kind of forgot about it.  In the ensuing weeks I got a vague picture of Aurelius a few times during meditation, but it really was very vague, so I simply forgot about it some more.
At some stage during the summer of 2010 this character started to draw close to me during my meditations and also started to work with me very closely when I was engaged in my spiritual work, to the extent that we became very close.  I was most glad to be associated with this extremely strong presence.
In February 2011 I was reading the book “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle, and in the particular chapter I was reading the author quoted the most wonderful piece of philosophy from a character by the name of Marcus Aurelius, who apparently lived about 2000 years ago.
“Accept whatever comes to you woven in the pattern of your destiny, for what could more aptly fit your needs”.
I thought this a coincidence, but in my typically apathetic way, I didn’t think too much about it.
Over the next few weeks I started to think that this was too much of a coincidence.  Then on the evening of 17 March 2011 I finally decided to Google the name “Marcus Aurelius”.  To my amazement there was a whole universe of information about this truly great being.
Marcus Aurelius (121 – 180) was a Roman emperor.  He was one of only five Roman emperors to have been considered “good”.  He was also revered as a great philosopher.  The most incredible thing was that the busts of him displayed on Wikipedia did bear a remarkable resemblance to the portrait that hangs on my wall.
I know that in truth names are meaningless and that you now enjoy life in the timeless realms of the nameless and formless, but I shall still refer to you as Marcus for the sake of human logic.  So, I am truly honoured Marcus that you have made yourself known to me and that we now enjoy a close bond of brotherhood.  God bless you brother!

The Alchemy Of Love

You come to us
from another world
From beyond the stars
…and void of space.
Transcendent, Pure,
Of unimaginable beauty,
Bringing with you
the essence of loveYou transform all
who are touched by you.
Mundane concerns,
troubles, and sorrows
dissolve in your presence,
Bringing joy
to ruler and ruled
To peasant and king

You bewilder us
with your grace.
All evils
transform into
goodness.

You are the master alchemist.

You light the fire of love
in earth and sky
in heart and soul
of every being.

Through your love
existence and nonexistence merge.
All opposites unite.
All that is profane
becomes sacred again

Extract One: ”At some stage, I really can’t remember when, I’d started having strange experiences during the night. I either dismissed these experiences as dreams or tried to convince myself that they simply hadn’t happened. One of the earliest that remains really vivid to this day was when I found myself travelling through the air at a terrific speed. It was quite dark and I found myself heading towards trees. It was a very hairy experience. I braced myself waiting for the impact, convinced I was going to get impaled on the branches. I was amazed when I realised I was simply flying through them as though they were not there.”

Extract Two: ”One of the most incredible of those early journeys was when I was transported to a house. I was dropped off outside and I remember stepping through the door and finding myself in a place that was dark. Whenever I recalled this experience I always referred to the house as “the dark and dingy place”. I seemed to step onto a landing and I was just standing there when all of a sudden my right hand felt warm. I looked down, and to my amazement, there was a small black child holding my hand. I recall at some stage that a rather rotund black lady appeared on the scene. I understand that I was being shown this house as a place that I was connected with in a previous life. It was a house where children suffered but the large black lady and I did our best to help these children.”

Extract Three: ”Without any prior indication, I entered into an involuntary state of meditation. I felt myself being bathed in pure love and all of a sudden I heard the most beautiful, sweet voice in my head. I can’t remember the words that were spoken because of my heightened state of being, but they were so, so sweet; like I was being spoken to by a father who loved me dearly. They were truly Divine words of love letting me know that Baba was with me. I just wish that I could remember exactly what was said. I didn’t want the experience to end, but I remain to this day, so eternally grateful for having had it.”

Extract Four: ”When I got to the steep part of the road I just gripped onto the wheel for dear life; it was at this point that I learned the meaning of white knuckle ride I was screaming for Baba now, literally, and I continued to hold onto the wheel for all I was worth. The car skidded, and even though I’ve known for ages that you are supposed to steer into a skid, what did I do? I can’t believe that I steered against it, but that’s what I did. The inevitable happened. I screamed some more and the car stalled again with the back end appearing to be in a ditch.

”I can’t remember if I got out of the car at this stage but I do remember starting it up again and putting it into gear. As before, I gave it a few revs, eased off the clutch and the car just started moving. Unbelievable! My heart rose as I thought I recognised a land mark through the whiteness that told me I was near the bottom of the hill. But it sunk again just as quickly when it appeared to be not so. As it turned out it was only the whiteness playing tricks on my eyes, and my heart rose again when I realised I was virtually at the bottom of the hill. “Nearly there”, I thought as I tried to gather myself for the last stage of the journey.”

Dreamland Stage

This place
is a dream.
Only a sleeper
considers it real.
Then death comes
………like dawn,
and you wake up
laughing
at what you thought
was your grief.

The Laughing Rose

“That which God said to the rose, and caused it to laugh in full-blown beauty, He said to my heart, and made it a hundred times more beautiful.”

Miracle Photo Taken At Baba’s Maha Samadhi

The photo below was taken at Baba’s Maha Samadhi (click to enlarge).  His ”dead” physical form can clearly be seen lying in state in the glass coffin.  But if you look to the right of the picture you can also clearly see Baba walking past and in perfect health, about to exit the scene.  All in a day’s work for the ”Divine Puppet Master”.

The Uncreated Wilderness Of Bliss

We all start off as a tiny micro-atom within that great uncreated wilderness of bliss, the ”Infinite Absolute”, the super-conscious mind of God.  Then, as if at the behest of a Divine whim, we make the transition from the uncreated to the created, from the formless into form and  become a tangible part of ”The Divine Puppet Master’s” grand plan.  From the uncreated (God The Father) we descend into matter and mingle with and become a part of the cosmic vibration (The Holy Spirit) or ”Aum”, that flows through the whole of creation like a life sustaining blood stream flowing through a human being.

From the very nano-second that we descend from the ”Cosmic Bosom” of The Divine Mother, our sole (and soul) reason for being is to make our way back.  But how?

In the beginning was the word and the word was Aum.  But the Aum alone did not have the intelligence, so God also injected The Christ Consciousness (God The Son or The Only Begotten) into the equation.  Thus could we begin our journey from form back to the formless, from the created back to the uncreated.  In our physical state we lose sight of who we really are, being only able to relate to the “outer” world as we succumb to the tricks of the mind and the five senses.  But we have also been given the tools to make inner enquiry; enabling us to know God (ourselves) through actual experience as opposed to the theological concept taught by religion.  This also is an explanation of the Holy Trinity.

From beyond vibratory creation (God The Father) came the Aum, the vibration (The Holy Spirit), and into the vibration God injected intelligence or Christ Consciousness (God The Son).  Jesus never claimed to be the only son of God, indeed he proclaimed that we are all sons and daughters of God, and the reason that God made manifest his ”Only Begotten Son” or Christ Consciousness in its purest form in the body that we knew as Jesus, was so that Jesus could teach us that we all have the potential to be like him, ”But as many as received him, to them he gave power to become the sons of God” John 1:12-13

The second coming is not going to be the day that a man with long hair and a beard, wearing a white gown and sandals comes walking down the street.  It will be the day that as individuals we resurrect the Christ Consciousness within ourselves, allowing us once again to ascend back to that uncreated wilderness of bliss.
